Action could be taken on illegal immigration Friday, June 3, 2005
Harold J. Wolfe The Framingham Tab
Letter: Action could be taken on illegal immigration Friday, June 3, 2005 We have been told by the Chairman of the Framingham Board of Selectman (BoS), who seems to be exhibiting a yearning to move on to state level politics, that a study will be done of the "immigration" issue.  Of course, the issue is really "illegal immigration" but she cannot bring herself to accept the difference because she cannot recognize the difference.  She is being shamed into this action by the election results of James Rizoli.

Regrettably, she has signed both the "Welcoming Proclamation" (that left out the words "law abiding citizens") and the sister city agreement with Govenador Valadares, Brazil (where most illegal aliens in Framingham come from).

By stating that this issue is not in her purview, she has tacitly acknowledged the problem exists but does not wish to deal with it.  Most of the problem is directly in her purview, through licenses, but not in her mind.

Taking note that she has stifled discussion of illegal immigration in public participation in BoS meetings, and her statement that she does not want to hear from those who claim that most recent immigrants in Framingham are illegal, we can see that she is hell bent on ignoring the intent of federal immigration laws.

She will be joined in her effort by the usual gang of four, the BoS excluding Ginger Esty.  The final vote will be 4-1 on whatever results come from this study of "immigration."  This will be the mother of all whitewashes.

Count on it.
