This is in response to Laura Medrano's Letter on Jan. 4, 2005, "Poor Nicolas," Poor Laura missed the point.  My husband supports, as he has said repeatedly, legal immigration. He does not support illegal immigration.  Why do people have so much trouble making a distinction?  Legal immigrants pay taxes, can register to vote, and by their actions have shown a commitment to stay in the United States and support its laws.  They are not free-riders. Poor Laura compares my husband, who came legally to this country, to those who go to school in Framingham illegally.  My husband borrowed funds to go to college, paid out-of-state tuition, and never received a scholarship from any public institution.  Her reference to the Cuban Adjustment Act is totally irrelevant since by that time my husband was an adult who was finishing up his senior year in college. Poor Laura!  The only defense she can muster for her position on illegal immigration is a personal attack on the initiative and civic contributions of my husband.  It is time for her to reveal her own contribution to illegal immigration. I feel sorry for Poor Metrowest Daily News that sees fit to publish such a personal attack on a good and responsible American citizen.  It is sad that when people run out of logical and measured arguments, their only recourse is a personal attack.
