Framingham Schools Creates and Hires New Positions Of Assistant Directors of Elementary and Secondary Education August 5, 2018

FRAMINGHAM - Superintendent of Schools Bob Tremblay has created two new position and filled them in the Office of Teaching and Learning.

Tremblay announced today he has hired an Assistant Director of Elementary Education and and Assistant Director of Secondary Education.

In April 2017, Tremblay created the positions of Director of Elementary Education and Director of Secondary Education. The base salary for the two positions is $128,200.42.

"Brenda Maurao and Kerry Wood bring many years of experience and deep passion for education to both Elementary and Secondary Education here in Framingham," said the school district.

The base salary for the Assistant directors is $105,541. Wood makes the base. Brenda Maurao makes an additional $6,092 for an educational increment, for a total of $111,633.

The four new positions total $473,574 plus benefits.

"These positions were created as part of the FY2019 budget process and organizational restructure that saved $90,000 at the central office,' said Rochelle Santos, the Media and Communications Manager for the Framingham Public Schools.

Brenda Maurao is the new Assistant Director of Elementary Education, hired to assist Amy Bright, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education.

She joins Framingham Public Schools from previous roles in Bellingham and Holliston. Her enthusiasm for education, leadership, and learning is refreshing, and she is a welcome addition to the Teaching and Learning team.

"The Office of Teaching and Learning is ecstatic to have Brenda Maurao join the Framingham team as we support equitable access to high quality instruction," said Amy Bright. "Her experience as a building based administrator and classroom teacher coupled with her expertise in educational technology tools will surely be a catalyst for the important work that lies ahead."

Kerry Wood is the new Assistant Director of Secondary Education. As part of the effort to identify leaders and extend career pathways that encourage internal talent development within Framingham Public Schools, Wood has been promoted to assist Anne Ludes, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education.

"Ms. Wood brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position of Assistant Director for Secondary Education," said Anne Ludes. "In her roles as English teacher and department head, she has consistently made decisions with the best interests of children in mind. We are very lucky to have her join the Office of Teaching and Learning as we continue our work to promote the academic, social and emotional growth of all children."

Maurao has been a dedicated educator for over twenty years, serving as a building principal for Stall Brook Elementary School in Bellingham, Massachusetts from 2017-2018 and assistant principal at Miller Elementary School in Holliston, Massachusetts, from 2012-2017. Prior to being a building administrator, she was a classroom teacher for fourteen years. She is passionate about making learning accessible for all, fostering a "can-do" growth mindset culture in education that encourages thoughtful risk-taking and keeping joy alive in schools. She is an active member of the Massachusetts School Administrators Association and the Massachusetts Computer Using Educators organization and enjoys sharing her learning at conferences on topics including Universal Design for Learning, Growth Mindset, Personalized Professional Development and Global Connections for Students. She lives in Holliston with her husband Michael, daughter Lucy (13) and son Max (10). Ms. Maurao maintains a blog and is active on Twitter (@bmaurao).

Wood earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Secondary Education from High Point University and a Master of Education in English from Framingham State University. Ms. Wood has 21 years of teaching experiencing at schools in England, Virginia, and Massachusetts. She was a member Framingham High School's English Department for 12 years and, most recently, has served as the ELA Department Head at Fuller Middle School. Ms. Wood is a passionate educator and committed team builder; she believes in fostering educational communities where both students and teachers are able to thrive. Ms. Wood lives in Ashland with her husband, Jeremy, and their two children, Hannah (16) and Oliver (13).
