First actual record of the area was a land grant to Elizabeth Glover in 1640.  Many grants followed in rapid succession but the largest and most important was the Thomas Danforth grant because it is upon the the Danforth farms that the main part of Framingham was built.

The town was named by Thomas Danforth after Framlingham, England.  Why the "l" was dropped is lost in obscurity.

  • State aid in 2003: Chapter 70 [ $12,392,654 ], Lottery aid [ $3,903,611 ] and Payment in Lieu of Taxes [ $5,108,043 ]
