Every tax is a pay cut.  Every tax cut is a pay raise.
Citizens for Limited Taxation

In my humble opinion, no one in this town should approve of any operational override request for the next five years or until this town acquires professional management and clearly shows us fiscal restraint and responsibility.

  • Fiscal responsibility is not requesting any override as long as you are holding more than $25 million dollars of DISPOSABLE real estate holdings.
  • Fiscal responsibility implies not giving town employees across the board pay raises that exceed Proposition 2 1/2 requirements
  • Fiscal responsibility implies controlling the town health insurance costs on behalf of the overburdened taxpayer.
  • Fiscal responsibility implies not giving the Town Manager a MERIT pay raise in a deficit year.
  • Fiscal responsibility implies not giving the School Superintendent a MERIT pay raise if he cannot deliver higher SAT scores.

There are now more attempts to shift funds from the Enterprise Fund to the General Fund.  This is like saying that our water/sewer fees are just general purpose revenues like taxes, and are no longer earmarked for water and sewage.  The clear implications of this is that the Board of Selectman will simply increase water/sewer rates anytime they want more revenue.  Let's not quickly forget Enron/Worldcom accounting standards.
