This is in response to the Safety Committee's proposal to grant licenses to illegals. Why in the name of public safety and helping the economy would we alter our laws to better the lives of half a million people whose modus operandi is to flaunt them?
The premises for doing so are specious. Public safety will not be improved by this. Rather, it will simply encourage more immigrants to come here illegally. As for our economy, illegals take away jobs from unskilled Americans and students and reduce wages and working conditions to the lowest levels.
Illegals say it's tough to get documents here and that they have to drive and work illegally. Well, being illegal should be tough! If you come to America, you have to respect our laws. Other foreigners do. Illegals cut in line and then blame us! Entering America illegally is a felony. Overstaying a visa is a deportable offense. We must enforce the law so that we Americans are safe in our own home.
Driver's licenses would only legitimize illegals' being here. A license is a breeder document. It opens doors to banking, housing, jobs, etc. Next they'll ask for work visas, then residency and finally citizenship. This is really a ploy for backdoor amnesty. George Washington, speaking of immigrants, said, "We shall welcome (them) to a participation of all our rights and privileges, if by decency of conduct they appear to merit the enjoyment." Is being an illegal alien demonstration of good conduct? They disobey "inconvenient" laws and then expect us to change our laws for their convenience.
Furthermore, any politician that would vote for such a measure would be violating U.S. Code Title 8, Section 1324, which says that anyone who aids an illegal alien in coming or staying here or by shielding them from detection shall be fined or imprisoned. Politicians have no right to make laws to help illegal aliens. Our leaders must uphold the law and make laws for the benefit of Americans.
